Gambler’s Corner: Week Seven

Things are going pretty good for us (so far) here at Gambler’s Corner.

After another strong set of picks from week five, we’re currently 7-2 on the season.

Hot Picks of Week Seven

Tennessee (+15) at Auburn

This is more of a “gut pick” than anything else. In what should have been a blowout loss, the Vols proved their mettle by playing competitive football for four full quarters against Georgia two weeks ago. And though there are no such things as moral victories in college football, Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt has to be pleased with the resolve his team showed in front of a hostile crowd in Athens. I’m not picking Tennessee to upset the Tigers in Jordan-Hare Stadium but don’t be surprised if this game is decided by a late score. Plus, the Vols have been afforded a whole two weeks to prepare for Auburn.

Oregon (+3) versus Washington 

After allowing Stanford to escape Autzen Stadium with a win three weeks ago, the Ducks are desperate for another opportunity to protect its home turf when the seventh-ranked Huskies come to town. Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert has supplanted Washington’s Jake Browning as the best signal caller in the PAC-12 and Saturday’s contest will prove just that. With Herbert at the helm, the Ducks are averaging over 500 yards and 45 points per game while Browning has only tossed nine touchdowns to five interceptions. Oregon boasts one of the best home-field advantages in the country and the Huskies will learn that soon enough.

Virginia Tech (-5.5) at North Carolina

After a clinical performance on the road against Florida State in week one, Virginia Tech was thought to be the greatest threat to Clemson for an ACC title. Losses to Old Dominion and Notre Dame have done plenty to silence that narrative but that doesn’t mean the Hokies are out of it just yet. On the other hand, North Carolina has struggled mightily against everyone except Pitt. The Tarheels’ defense allows nearly 400 yards and 36 points per contest and are just as disappointing on offense. This will soon become a forgettable year for North Carolina and even if the Hokies were favored by 21 points, I’d still pick Virginia Tech.
