How High Could WVU Basketball Be Seeded?
WVU basketball has had a better start to the season than anyone could have expected, but one national analyst seems to think the team’s potential is even higher than what it has already shown.
CBS Sports bracketology expert Jerry Palm predicted the Mountaineers to be a No. 2 seed in his latest NCAA Tournament projection posted on Jan. 3. WVU has been included in tournament projections for a few weeks now, but no one has put them anywhere near as high as a No. 2 seed.
Palm’s projection has WVU playing No. 15-seeded Central Connecticut in the first round and then either Iowa or San Diego State in the second.
That seeding would match the team’s highest-ever, tying the 2009-10 team that was also a No. 2 seed.
Much like beating Gonzaga did earlier in the season, WVU’s win over No. 7 Kansas has seemingly caught the eye of those around the nation. The Mountaineers are now 3-2 in Quad 1 games after beating Gonzaga, Kansas and Arizona.
The team’s only losses, Pitt and Louisville, are both Quad 1 losses, meaning they don’t penalize the Mountaineers very much.
WVU basketball could further add to its resume as the Mountaineers rematch Arizona at home this week. The teams’ previous meeting in the Bahamas was treated as a non-conference game, but Tuesday’s match in the Coliseum is part of Big 12 play.
