Basketball is a team sport. It takes both players and coaches to be able to compete day in and day out against the elite competition. With West Virginia, two leaders have stepped up and said that the team needs to listen to the coaching staff more.

“If we pay attention to scout and stop teams from doing what they do best, I feel like we’ll be good,” WVU guard Malik Curry said after the Oklahoma State game. “I think it starts with us as players listening to the coaching staff.”

Many people have been critical of this year’s team, with some people blaming players and others blaming the coaching staff. Starting guard Kedrian “Keddy” Johnson put an end to the debate of who to blame.

“Actually, none of it is on the coaches,” Johnson said. “They’re preparing us for battle with scouting reports and practice.”

As Curry said if the team can listen to the coaches and the scouting report that they come up with, the team believes that they can turn this season around quickly. That starts with an opportunity to upset No. 6 Kansas in Morgantown on Saturday night. The Mountaineers and Jayhawks are set to tip off at 8 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN.
