Mountaineer Nation Shares Memories of Listening to Hall of Fame Broadcaster Jay Jacobs

West Virginia fans everywhere are sharing their memories from years of listening to WVU Sports Hall of Famer and long-time broadcaster Jay Jacobs upon hearing the news of his impending retirement.
Jacobs, who has been analyzing the basketball program for over four decades, will be on the call for the final time during the West Virginia-St. John’s broadcast on Dec. 1.
Behind the mic for nearly 50 years of Mountaineer basketball.
Congratulations to Jay Jacobs on a Hall of Fame career and thank you for all the memories!

I love Jay Jacobs on the mic. At 48 years old, he is the most constant thing about my Mountaineer fandom. I'll miss listening to his radio calls and his banter during the coaches shows. https://t.co/P59isr0eqa

Congratulations to Jay Jacobs. Gave the right amount of genuine enthusiasm during broadcasts. He wore the gold and blue as a player and was a link to the 1959 Final 4.
Voices can wear on you over time. I never got tired of hearing Jay Jacobs provide 🏀 color commentary. 💛💙 https://t.co/mx665nc3j1

Jay Jacobs and Tony had just perfect chemistry. Jay and Tony are the only voice of WVU basketball I know.
It's simply won't be the same without him.— Will McBurney (@ProfMcBurney) October 25, 2023
The absolute best! In 20 years I will be telling my kids about Jay Jacobs there is no doubt about that https://t.co/iLD63FGf0N

Even though Jay Jacobs has earned every bit of being able to enjoy a great retirement, it’s safe to say WVU basketball games won’t be the same anymore without being able to hear his voice on the call.
