Mountaineers Being Doubted Based on 2024 Big 12 Win Total Odds

The 2024 college football season is still a long ways away, but that’s not stopping oddsmakers from trying to project win totals. It even appears WVU’s 2023 season and returning roster is not enough for one major sportsbook to be bought into a big 2024 for the Mountaineers.

Even though there are some media and fans already talking about West Virginia making a run at winning the Big 12 title, FanDuel is not as confident in Neal Brown’s team. FanDuel currently has WVU’s win total set at 6.5. And based on their win totals for the rest of the conference, this places the Mountaineers towards the bottom half of the new Big 12.

There are two ways for West Virginia to look at this. Brown and his team could use this as motivation and claim they are being doubted once again. The coaches and players all admitted the fuel from preseason predictions helped them throughout the 2023 season.

Obviously, the other takeaway is to feel this is a form of disrespect, mostly based on the fact the majority of the key contributors from last season will be back on the team in the fall.

WVU head coach Neal Brown and his Mountaineers are looking to continue climbing after a successful 2023 season. Brown’s team finished with an 8-4 record in the regular season and then capped off the year by defeating North Carolina in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

While the roster did endure losing some notable players, most notably Zach Frazier, Beanie Bishop and Doug Nester, who are all pursing the NFL, Brown and his staff were able to retain the key assets needed to reach even greater heights in 2024.

To add to the anticipation and hype for the 2024 season, WVU announced the date of Gold-Blue spring game last week. The 2024 WVU football season will also mark a dawning of a new era in the Big 12. WVU’s full 2024 season schedule was unveiled recently.
