Mountaineers Receive Pledge from Matthews

Published

on

Small forward Emmitt Matthews Jr (6’6” 160-lbs) has committed to the West Virginia Mountaineers basketball program and will be eligible for the 2018-19 season. Matthews was previously committed to the UConn Huskies, but after the firing of head coach Kevin Ollie, he de-committed.

Along with UConn, Matthews has been recruited by Oklahoma, Georgetown, Seton Hall and Washington.

During his senior season at Wilson High School in Tacoma, Washington, Matthews averaged 22.3 points, 2.4 assists, 9.4 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.

This is good news for the Mountaineers after the announcement of forward Teddy Allen’s decision to transfer from the West Virginia program.
