Throughout his travels from college kicker at WVU, to NFL All-Pro punter, to his immense success as a media mogul, Pat McAfee has made sure to never forger where he came from. McAfee, a Plum Borough, PA native, apparently had his hometown on his mind in the wake of tragedy.

According to a Facebook post on a Plum community page, McAfee recently helped contribute as part of a large donation of sports equipment for kids in the Rustic Ridge Estates area. “The biggest of thank you’s to the Mains Family, Pat McAfee Show and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds for dropping off a truckload of sports equipment for the kids to play with,” reads the Facebook post.

This is far from the first time the host of the Pat McAfee Show has done something to give back to Plum, but this donation may mean even more due to the timing. It’s on the heels of a home explosion that killed six people and left several homes either destroyed or severely damaged.

Based on other posts from Plum residents and community members, it appears the equipment was offered for the kids of Rustic Ridge Estates to use for a game of kickball and other actives while their parents met to discuss some important topics.

Earlier in the summer, McAfee spent approximately $32,000 so the children of Plum could all enjoy every ride at the borough’s annual SummerFest completely free.

Borough Manager Micheal A. Thomas made McAfee’s donation known during a council meeting last month.

“We are very grateful to Pat McAfee of The Pat McAfee Show. Saturday evening the The Pat McAfee Show bought all of the ride all day tickets for children 17 and under. There was about 1,600 children that got free ride all day tickets and Pat McAfee donated about $32,000 for them,” said Thomas.

“So we’re very proud to have him as one of our former residents and alum here at Plum High School, but we just want people to know that’s the kind of commitment Plum people have to our community,” Thomas added to express his appreciation of McAfee and the benefit of having someone of his stature still interested in supporting the area he grew up in.
