Report: Tennessee Withdraws from Liberty Bowl After Multiple Positive COVID Tests

The Tennessee Volunteers will be unable to participate in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl against West Virginia on Dec. 31 due to multiple positive COVID-19 cases within the program, including head coach Jeremy Pruitt, according to a report from ESPN’s Chris Low.
According to Low, Tennessee was tested Sunday in accordance with SEC protocol and the positive results were returned Monday morning. Both West Virginia and Tennessee were announced as Liberty Bowl participants Sunday afternoon and both programs officially accepted invitations to the game on a Zoom call later that evening.
Low reports that Mississippi State and Army are possible replacements for the Volunteers to be WVU’s opponent.
