Starting Guard Josh Sills Enters Transfer Portal

Published

on

Three-year starting guard Josh Sills entered his name into the transfer portal today as reported by the Cole Cubelic of the SEC Network.

Sills started 13 games in 2017, 12 in 2018 and was set to be a starter on this year’s team as well. Sills transitioned from guard to center to start the year but moved back to guard after one game. In the team’s second game of the season Sills suffered a season-ending shoulder injury that held him out of action for the rest of the year.

The 6-foot-6, 326-pound redshirt junior will have at least one year of eligibility remaining.

Briason Mays and Chase Behrndt manned the center position throughout the year while Behrndt, Mike Brown, James Gmiter and John Huges played at guard throughout the season.

Sills is the second West Virginia player to enter his name into the portal this week after senior running back Martell Pettaway put his name in on Monday.

Sills’ departure will mean that WVU will lose all three of its most experienced offensive linemen for next year. Senior tackles Colton McKivitz and Kelby Wickline are both graduating.
