West Virginia has held their own at times in Big 12 play after struggling throughout the beginning of the season. The Mountaineers have been competitive in most conference games and have won more than expected so far, but it’s still not good enough to turn the season around.

West Virginia sits at an overall record of 8-14 and 3-6 in the Big 12 after Saturday’s loss to a ranked BYU team. WVU gets a full week off before traveling to Austin, Texas to face the Longhorns, who they’ve already defeated once.

WVU interim HC Josh Eilert mentioned on Thursday that his team had two days off earlier in the week to recover and get well rested.

“It’s time for a week off,” Eilert said after the BYU game. “We need to get our legs under us and work on what we can work on. It would be nice to be very fresh going into a two-game road trip. That’s two very challenging games at Texas and TCU.”

“That’s part of battling in the hardest conference in the country is trying to get your legs under you and fight for your recovery,” Eilert added.

WVU’s next five games:

@ Texas / Feb. 10

@ TCU / Feb. 12

vs. Baylor / Feb. 16

vs. UCF / Feb. 20

@ Iowa State / Feb. 24

According to WarrenNolan, West Virginia is projected to win only one game the rest of the regular season, at home vs. UCF. WVU’s at-large chances are slim to none but the Mountaineers can play for seeding in the Big 12 tournament to receive byes, which could make their path a little bit easier.
