WVU Baseball won their thirteenth game in a row on Friday, April 18, taking the game and their series with Cincinnati after surviving a Bearcats’ comeback attempt.

Jace Rinehart logged a home run, three hits and two RBI, Carson Estridge picked up the save after Reese Bassinger ran out of gas at four innings and 72 pitches thrown, and the Mountaineers (33-4, 12-3 Big 12) tied their longest winning streak of the season.

Kyle West singled with two outs in the first, advancing to third after a pair of wild pitches.

Rinehart continued his strong weekend at the plate, singling West home to put West Virginia ahead 1-0.

Cincinnati tied the game in the fourth with a leadoff home run, but the Mountaineers immediately established the lead on a Chase Swain sacrifice fly.

Logan Sauve homered with two outs and two strikes in the fifth as the ball began to fly. West Virginia began to pad their lead via the long ball, with Rinehart homering on the first pitch of the sixth, then Grant Hussey joined the party with a two-run shot.

The Bearcats threatened in the ninth, plating two quick runs after a hit batter, a triple — which queued head coach Steve Sabins to substitute  Estridge in for Bassinger — and an RBI groundout. Nevertheless, Estridge sent Cincinnati packing just four pitches later after a lineout and a three pitch strikeout.

WVU Baseball will play for a sweep over Cincinnati in the series finale, set to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 19.
