WVU Football Recruiting
WVU Football Cracks Top 5, Battling Big Brands for 4-Star QB

As Legend Bey nears his college decision, the WVU football program continues to feel confident in their chances to actually land the top quarterback prospect.
Bey himself provided more confidence on Thursday when he confirmed West Virginia as one of his top five schools, narrowing his list down from the 10 he announced last month.
As of now, the Mountaineers are competing with the likes of Duke, Ohio State, Tennessee and Texas A&M. Previously, his top 10 also consisted of Boston College, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas Tech.
A product of Texasโ North Forney High School, Bey is ranked as a four-star by at least one major recruiting service and listed at 6-foot and 185 pounds.
WV Sports Now spoke with Bey in April to learn what makes WVU stand out.
Well, to no surprise, the answer is actually pretty simple – it’s because of what playing for Rich Rodriguez could do for him. WV Sports Now caught up with the 2026 recruit while he was in Morgantown for an official visit during the weekend of the Gold-Blue Spring Showcase.
And it definitely sounds as if the WVU staff is winning Bey over.

“My relationship with the coaching staff, They have the best interest for me at the QB position!,” Bey revealed to WV Sports Now.
Joining Rodriguez at WVU would provide Bey a chance to learn from a coach who has a long history of molding athletes into elite quarterbacks. But fortunately for West Virginia, Bey also loves the entire staff and the atmosphere around the program.
“They have an outstanding fan base! They show the most consistent love and it all feels authentic!!,” added Bey.
When asked how familiar he is with Rodriguez’s offense, Bey made it clear he’s aware of the system beyond just knowing Rodriguez’s reputation and success with dual-threat quarterbacks.
“Iโm very familiar with the offense!!! I love the uptempo!!!,” Bey responded.
Bey actually included WVU in his current top 10 right before making the trip from Texas to West Virginia. Rodriguez and his staff officially extended an offer to Bey in late February.
A major reason why it makes sense for Bey to be interested in WVU is his potential fit with Rodriguez. Bey is a dual-threat quarterback who totaled 1,444 passing yards with 1,912 rushing yards during his 2024 season. He produced 41 overall touchdowns and was named Offensive MVP.
247 Sports ranks Bey as their 109th player in Texas and No. 771 as far as where he stands nationally.
Aside from his top schools, Bey has offers on the table from note worthy schools like Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, California, Cincinnati, Colorado, Houston, Michigan State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Pitt, TCU, UCF and Utah among many others.
During his 2024 high schools season, Bey proved he’s a true athlete by throwing for 1,444 yards, running for 1,912 yards on the ground and scoring 41 total touchdowns.
