A few former Mountaineers had noteworthy performances in the third week of the preseason. With just one week until the regular season kicks off, some of these guys are fighting for spots on the depth chart, and maybe even a spot on the team.

Defending Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, David Long, recorded four tackles on Sunday night in a 18-6 loss to Pittsburgh.

A pair of WVU alumni had a pretty solid outing for the Seattle Seahawks in the third week of the preseason. The Seahawks came away with a 23-15 win on the road against the Chargers.

Geno Smith went 11/18 for 117 yards, also scurrying for 24 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Gary Jennings Jr. was targeted three times, recording one reception for 12 yards.

Will Grier could now possibly be battling for the starting position for the first week of the season after former MVP Cam Newton went down with a foot injury. Grier came in and finished 4-8 for just 44 yards. The Panthers struggled all night on offense as they lost 10-3 to the Patriots.
