The job status of head coach Neal Brown has been the biggest question looming over the West Virginia Mountaineers since the end of last season. And now after finishing an 8-4 regular season, Brown is speaking out with his own opinion on if he believes he will continue on at WVU.

“I’m very confident in our growth of our program and where we are going, and yes, I do expect to be here,” Brown told Hoppy Kercheval when directly asked about his future while appearing on the West Virginia Talkline show Tuesday morning.

He also answered the other end of the question that few focus on – if he still wants to remain at West Virginia or if he maybe feels it’s best if he moves on and starts another chapter in his coaching career somewhere else. To that end, Brown made his feeling clear.

“My family and I enjoy our time at West Virginia. We want to see this through,” said Brown. He also added “God willing” when he again was asked if he expects to be the head football coach at WVU in 2024 and beyond.

These comments from Brown only intensify the belief that he will in fact be retained and his attempt at leading WVU through a climb will continue. Despite some counterpoints to his 2023 success like taking advantage of a weaker Big 12 schedule, especially compared to how it was in 2022, the overwhelming feeling from those close to the program is that WVU is not going to fire a coach after an 8-4 season and that he did show the kind of turnover around needed this season.

Only time will tell what happens throughout the offseason, and if back, if the Mountaineers will build off 2023 for an even better season next year.
