The WVU women’s basketball team fell one spot in this week’s AP Top 25 poll, down to No. 18.

The Mountaineers (21-6, 11-5 Big 12) split two games against ranked opponents last week, beating Kansas State 70-57 Monday before losing 71-50 at TCU Sunday. TCU is ranked No. 10 in this week’s poll while Kansas State is ranked No. 14. Other Big 12 teams in the top 15 include No. 17 Baylor and No. 21 Oklahoma State. Utah received votes.

The split week dropped WVU back down to No. 18, where it was two weeks ago. The Mountaineers had risen to No. 17 in the poll last week. West Virginia has been ranked in every poll this season.

WVU’s victory over Kansas State was the team’s biggest win of the season. JJ Quinerly dropped 26 points and added five rebounds, four assists and three steals, doing a little bit of everything to key the Mountaineers. Jordan Harrison added 18 points and Jordan Thomas tallied 11 off the bench, while Kyah Watson put up a valiant effort on the glass with 15 rebounds.

At TCU, Hailey Van Lith outdueled Quinerly as the star shooting guards led their teams with 26 and 13 points, respectively. Sedona Prince turned in 20 more as the Horned Frogs poured it on, while the Mountaineers made just 30.5% of their shots. Jordan Harrison dropped 11 points, the only other West Virginia player to hit double digits. While the Mountaineers forced 18 turnovers โ€” not far off their usual mark โ€” their shots just didnโ€™t fall.

West Virginia is in sixth place in the Big 12 standings with two games left in the regular season. The Mountaineers host Utah Wednesday at 7 p.m. before closing the regular season at Cincinnati Saturday at 2 p.m.
