The NCAA’s transfer portal officially opened Monday. It will stay open for 30 days and close on April 22.
Amani Hansberry is the fourth Mountaineer to enter the portal since the season ended, joining freshmen Jonathan Powell and KJ Tenner and senior Tucker DeVries, who plans to follow former WVU coach Darian DeVries to Indiana.
A sophomore center, Hansberry transferred to WVU from Illinois last offseason. He and fellow former Illini Sencire Harris followed associate head coach Chester Fraizer.
Hansberry played in 31 games this season with 24 starts, missing a single game with an injury. He was second on WVU in scoring, averaging 9.8 points and led the team with 6.5 rebounds. He showcased great versatility on offense, shooting 54.1% inside the arc while making 35 three-pointers, the third-most on the team.
He scored a season-high 19 points on back-to-back nights against Lousiville and Arizona in the Battle 4 Atlantis in The Bahamas. Hansberry scored double-digit points 13 times and recorded four double-doubles.
The immediate future for WVU basketball remains unclear as athletic director Wren Baker continues the process of hiring a new head coach.
