Makhi Boone Has Strong Fundamentals | WVU Football All 105
All 105 is a West Virginia Sports Now series profiling each member of the 2026 WVU Football Roster.
Part of a freshman class with three dozen members, freshman cornerback Makhi Boone enters a position group in need of an immediate overhaul. The Mountaineers allowed 28 passing touchdowns and the eighth-most passing yards in Division I – FBS last season; even for a head coach like Rich Rodriguez who prides himself on high-flying offense, that sort of performance wonโt foster success.
Boone, who stands six feet tall and weighs 171 pounds, possesses one of the most important qualities for a defense in need of reform: of the 37 tackles he had a hand in during his senior year of high school, 27 were solo stops. His ability to both get to the ball-carrier and bring them down could help Boone earn immediate playing time on special teams or even as a reserve. He also boasts excellent ball skills, hauling in five interceptions last season.
Defensive back is one of the hardest positions on the gridiron, so Boone will face a learning curve in Morgantown, but donโt rule out a freshman debut for the three-star recruit.
