WVU Basketball head coach Ross Hodge has rebuilt his roster exclusively with non-Power Four players. However, this doesn’t mean he failed to bring in P4 talent, as he landed senior forward Treysen Eaglestaff.

Eaglestaff comes to Morgantown with experience as a leader, starting every game for the past two seasons.

Last year, he racked up 18.9 points per game, the fourth-most in the Summit League and was considered one of the top 100 players in the transfer portal by multiple media outlets.

One area Eaglestaff excels in is three-point shooting, making 35.9% of his shots last year.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and 190 pounds, Eaglestaff is very mobile and quick with the ball, which may explain why he was listed as a guard at North Dakota. This also helps him grate his own shots, extending his three-point opportunities to more than simply catch-and-shoot.

When it comes to inside scoring, Eaglestaff was regularly used off the ball in play designs that attacked the rim. When handling the ball, his size and quickness allow him to beat defenders to the basket and finish in various ways.

While his scoring efforts are eye-catching, Eaglestaff’s ability as a passer makes him a prime option for WVU’s back court. He finished last year with 2.4 assists per game and can be creative with finding teammates when the situation calls for it.

After foregoing the NBA Draft earlier this year, Eaglestaff discussed his reasoning, including his desire to improve defensively on an episode of the “3 Guys Before the Game” podcast.

โ€œThey just said my body, I donโ€™t pass the eye test if you looked at me,” Eaglestaff said. “The eye test is a real thing. “And then just my defensive ability, like that first step, and just donโ€™t give up on a possession because thereโ€™s obviously multiple stops in one possession.โ€
