A paid of former Mountaineers received new professional contracts to play in the CFL this week.

On Tuesday, the Ottawa RedBlacks signed defensive back Alonzo Addae to a new deal to retain one of their star players. This comes after the B.C. Lions signed Devin Carter last week.

Addae, 27, set a new career high in total tackles with 42 in 2024 and also made a couple interceptions. His new contract is a two-year deal.

Addae joined the Mountaineers in 2019, following three seasons at the University of New Hampshire. After redshirting in 2017, he left New Hampshire with 61 tackles (42 solo), two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 10 passes defended. When he got to Morgantown for his redshirt junior season, he sat it out due to the transfer rules at the time.

The Pickering, Ontario, native started all 10 games of 2020, nabbing All-Big 12 second and third team honors.

During his final season with the Mountaineers, Addae was an All-Big 12 honorable mention. His 13 games played produced as many starts, 73 tackles (45 solo) and three passes defended. He was a finalist for the 2021 Canadian Cornish Trophy, which denotes the top Canadian football player in the NCAA.

As for Carter, he was signed by the NFLโ€™s Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent and then had a brief opportunity with the Arizona Cardinals.
