Tackling Machine Ben Bogle a Rising Star | WVU Football All 105

WVU Football LB Ben Bogle

All 105 is a West Virginia Sports Now series profiling each member of the 2025 WVU Football Roster.

Redshirt junior linebacker Ben Bogle is a tackling machine who transferred to the Mountaineers after spending his first three seasons at Southern Illinois. He earned an honorable mention to the Associated Press FCS All-America team last season after racking up 87 tackles (16.5 for loss) along with two interceptions and 5.5 sacks.

Now, Bogle will receive a chance to test his skills in the Big 12. At 6-foot-1 and 216 pounds, he’s a prototypical middle linebacker with a nose for the ball carrier. That hasn’t changed since high school, when he ranked No. 15 nationally as a senior with a whopping 202 tackles, leading the football-crazy state of Florida in the category.

The Mountaineers’ defense ranked toward the bottom of the FBS in 2024, their 33.4 points per game allowed landing at No. 112 out of 134 teams. With plenty of spots available and new defensive coordinator Zac Alley in the fold, expect to see a prominent role for Bogle as he makes the jump to the Power Four level.

Stats: 87.5 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and two interceptions across 12 games (ten starts) in 2024.

Camp outlook: Bogle transferred to WVU Football at the end of April, so fans and media didn’t get a chance to see him operate during the spring practice period.

Projected role: Given his rising trajectory at SIU, Bogle has a good chance of working his way into the starting lineup for the Mountaineers this season.

Accolades, highlights: Bogle secured an honorable mention to the AP’s FCS All-America team and finished No. 20 in voting for the Buck Buchanan award, offered to the best FCS defensive player.
