Tony Fields, the only West Virginia University football player invited to this year’s Senior Bowl, wanted to make the most of his time in Mobile, Alabama.

“This week is going great,” Fileds told WVU broadcaster Tony Caridi on Friday. “It’s just a long, stressful week but all-in-all, I’m, blessed to be here and I’m just taking advantage of this opportunity. Every play, every coaching opportunity, everything I hear I take advantage and I listen.”

Fields spent just one season in West Virginia after transferring from Arizona, but he made the most of it. He led the Mountaineers in tackles with 88 to go along with four tackles for loss, one sack and an interception. He said working with linebackers coach Jeff Koonz helped him develop his game.

“Prior to arriving to West Virginia, I had a good relationship with Coach Koonz,” Fields said. “I already had told him everything that I wanted to work on. Coach Koonz made sure he did extra drills after practice for me, we watched film all the time and he just made sure he got me right to everything I wanted to work on.”

As he prepares for the NFL Draft, Fields said he is hoping his versatility will help set him apart from other linebackers.

“In the National Football League, they stress a lot the ability to play multiple positions,” Fields said. “With me playing Mike linebacker at West Virginia, I can now play every linebacker position.”

Fields did not dress for the Senior Bowl game on Saturday, but he still received recognition from his peers during practices.
