West Virginia Plans to Use CB Charles Woods in Limited Role in Texas Tech Game

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – Despite losing some other key players, West Virginia is likely to gain a couple back, most notably one they have been without most of the season.

WVU head coach Neal Brown explained that he expects cornerback Charles Woods to be able to play in a limited capacity this Saturday in Lubbock when the Mountaineers battle Texas Tech. Last week, Brown labeled Woods as “probably one week away” during his press conference leading up to the Baylor game. That clarification last week was the first time Brown put an exact timetable on Woods’ return.

Previously, Brown said that Woods was fighting to get back this season. He was even noncommittal about classifying Woods’ status until the veteran corner hinted on social media that he had surgery to repair his ankle. Brown did then call Woods injury as “a serious one” when asked about it days later.

While it’s unknown what type of role Woods is planned to have, getting the star corner back at all could serve as a major boost for a WVU secondary that has struggled at times this season.

Woods was injured early in the team’s season opening game in Pittsburgh, needing to be carted off the Acrisure Stadium field. He was placed on several watch lists for his position prior to the season.
