WVU’s Derek Culver Named a Finalist for Lute Olson Player of the Year Award

West Virginia junior forward Derek Culver has been named a Lute Olson All-American and is a finalist for the Lute Olson National Player of the Year Award.

Culver is one of 25 players named to the All-America Team. The winner of the player of the year award will be announced on April 1.

This season, the Youngstown, Ohio native averaged a career-best 14.3 points per game and led the Mountaineers in rebounding, averaging 9.4 per game. He tallied 11 double-doubles and was named to the All-Big 12 First Team, two All-District teams and was named an AP All-American honorable mention. Culver also surpassed 1,000 career points this season.

Other Big 12 players on the list are Baylor’s Jared Butler and Oklahoma State’s Cade Cunningham.
