CB Alex Adebayo, a Scout Team Grinder | WVU Football All 105
All 105 is a West Virginia Sports Now series profiling each member of the 2026 WVU Football Roster.
After allowing 28 touchdowns through the air and the eighth-most passing yards in the nation in 2025, WVU needed to overhaul their secondary for the second time in as many years.
Talented defensive backs come at a premium in college football, and the Mountaineers took a flyer on redshirt sophomore cornerback Alex Arebayo as one piece in the puzzle of next seasonโs secondary. 6-foot-1 and 192 pounds, Adebayo spent two seasons in the FCS with Delaware, playing one game in 2025.
Even without much playing time, he still managed to make an impact for the Blue Hens, winning plaudits as their defensive scout team player of the week early in the season. For a program priding itself on a hard edge like WVU under Rich Rodriguez, those sorts of contributions matter.
Adebayo amassed 52 tackles, two interceptions, 12 pass breakups and a fumble recovery during his senior year at Marylandโs Howard High School while also lettering in track and field and basketball; athletic traits that should bode well as he gains experience on the gridiron. He claims to possess a seven foot wingspan. Even if thatโs on the high side, length is an important trait for defensive backs.
While he projects as a special teamer or reserve right now, Adebayoโs work ethic could gain him favor with the Mountaineersโ coaches and fans over his three remaining seasons of eligibility.
