Jonathan Powell Will Transfer From WVU to North Carolina

WVU freshman Jonathan Powell will transfer to North Carolina, according to a report Tuesday evening.
Per Joe Tipton of On3 Sports, Powell has committed to UNC and will play for the Tar Heels. Powell entered the transfer portal two weeks ago on March 17, the first day the portal was open. He entered the portal prior to head coach Darian DeVries’s departure to Indiana.

A freshman from Centerville, Ohio, Jonathan Powell averaged 8.3 points this season. He finished second on WVU in three-pointers (64) and three-point shooting (35.2%). Powell played in all 32 games and started the final 23 after replacing Tucker DeVriesย in the starting lineup following his injury.
Powell reached double-digit points in 15 games this season, scoring a career-high 17 in wins overย North Carolina Centralย andย Oklahoma State. He was theย hero on WVUโs Senior Day, scoring 15 points, including a pair of clutch three-pointers in the final minutes.
North Carolina was the team that kept WVU out of the NCAA Tournament this season. The Tar Heels were the last team in, while the Mountaineers were the last team out. UNC athletic director Bubba Calhoun was the chair of the selection committee.
