Since the WVU football program is experiencing a transition and that means an influx of players going in and out of West Virginia, WV Sport Now is offering this separate notebook that will serve as a tracker of the transfer portal movement.

Below are the recent WVU players to depart the program.

WR Traylon Ray

Traylon Ray is now offering his services to Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss. Three weeks after entering the transfer portal, Ray announced his commitment to the Rebels on Wednesday.

A top 2023 recruit from Tallahassee, Fla., Traylon Ray became an instant contributor since he arrived in Morgantown. As a freshman, Ray caught 18 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns.

Ray moved into a larger role this season, making 28 receptions for 426 yards and four scores before his season was cut short due to an injury against Baylor.

LB Trey Lathan

Another now former Mountaineer Trey Lathan has found a new home. Lathan signed with Kansas to stay within the Big 12 on Tuesday, per 247 Sports.

Lathan entered the transfer portal three weeks ago on Dec. 18.

Lathan (6-foot-1, 226 pounds) started 17 games during his West Virginia career and still has two more years left of eligibility. He recorded 79 total tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble in 2024.

Lathan, a Goulds, Fla. native, made 27 tackles in 2023 before suffering a season ending injury at TCU. He registered seven total tackles in West Virginia’s Frisco Bowl loss on Dec. 17.

WR Hudson Clement

Even knowing a coaching change would mean the loss of players, Hudson Clement was one WVU fans wanted to keep. However, he’s now officially gone and signed on with another program.

On Jan. 2, Clement signed on with Illinois. Clement ended up picking Illinois about to weeks after entering the transfer portal on Dec. 20.

Clement became an instant fan favorite throughout the last two seasons. He initially started off as a walk-on out of Martinsburg, W.Va. and then eventually earned a full scholarship after a breakout performance early in the 2023 season.

In 2024, Clement caught 51 balls for 741 yards and scored five touchdowns. He’s coming off a monster performance in West Virginia’s 42-37 Frisco Bowl loss as well.

For a related story, Clement fired back at fans hating on him for leaving WVU.

OL Lucas Austin

Lucas Austin became the latest WVU offensive lineman to follow Matt Moore to Virginia Tech. He was a third-team All-State product out of Sterling High School in Sterling, Illinois.

Austin fits the versatility WVU offensive line coach Matt Moore likes in his linemen. He has experience at both tackle positions, guard, and even at tight end. He’s rated among the top 40 prospects in his state. Austin also played basketball in high school.

In addition to the Mountaineers, Austin was weighing offers from Air Force, Army, Columbia, Dartmouth, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, Miami (OH), Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Northwestern, Southern Illinois, and a few others.
