WVU Football Labeled National Signing Day Winner by Major Outlet
Coming off a rough 2025 season, Rich Rodriguez provided WVU football fans with the hope they needed based on Wednesday’s Early National Signing Day. West Virginia’s recruiting success even earned the Mountaineers some national recognition.
After signing well over 40 recruits for the 2026 class, Rivals’ Greg Smith placed WVU as one of his winners to this point.
Below is what Smith had to say about the work of Rodriguez and his staff.
“Coach Rich Rodriguez has had a good finish to the 2026 cycle. The biggest news came when the program flipped four-star safety Matt Sieg away from Penn State on National Signing Day. Itโs not so much about Penn State as it is winning the battle against Virginia Tech and Indiana. Both schools made hard pushes for Sieg.”

He continued, highlighting some lesser known recruits who he believes will be quality additions.
“West Virginia also added some high upside pieces with JUCO offensive lineman Deshawn Woods and Indiana high schooler Jonas Muya. Also, 6-foot-4, 200 cornerback DaโMun Allen joined the fold. West Virginia now has the No. 24 class in the country. The arrow is pointing up in Morgantown after National Signing Day,” said Smith.
As it currently stands, Rivals rank West Virginia’s 2026 class No. 21 in the country. Prior to Signing Day, they had WVU at No. 32 based just off commitments.
