The WVU men’s and women’s basketball teams both had strong debuts in the first NET rankings of the season, which were released on Monday.

The WVU men (5-2) debuted at No. 29 in the NET rankings, the sixth-highest Big 12 team. The WVU women cracked the top 10, coming in as the No. 10 team.

The men are coming off an impressive showing at the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas with ranked wins over then-No. 3 Gonzaga and then-No. 24 Arizona. Not only did that give the Mountaineers a good Net ranking, it also boosted them 20 spots in the KenPom rankings and earned them 26 votes in the AP Top 25 poll.

West Virginia (5-2) picked up a pair of impressive ranked wins at the Battle 4 Atlantis over then-No. 3 Gonzaga and then-No. 24 Arizona. WVU also took tournament runner-up Louisville down to the wire as the Mountaineers went into overtime in all three tournament games.

The WVU women (8-1) lost 78-73 to No. 4 Texas in the Gulf Coast Showcase championship game in Estero, Fla. on Sunday, their first setback of the season. In the Ap Top 25 Poll released Monday morning, the team fell three spots from No. 12 to No. 15.

The Mountaineers overall had a good week at the Gulf Coast Showcase, dominating High Point and Boise State in the first two games in Florida.
