WVU women’s basketball against SIU

The WVU women’s basketball team is holding firm in the AP Top 25 poll, clocking in at No. 15 for the second week in a row.

The Mountaineers (9-1) played just once last week, beating East Tennessee State 85-40 Friday morning in the team’s annual Education Day game. West Virginia dominated even without star guard JJ Quinerly, who missed the first game in her four-year career.

The Mountaineers forced 29 turnovers and allowed just 5 offensive rebounds, winning 39-17 on the glass and limiting ETSU to just 43 shots. Their offense looked sloppy at times in the 10:30 a.m. start, committing 25 turnovers themselves, but their defense carried the day.

Also in this week’s Top 25 are Big 12 foes TCU (No. 12), Kansas State (No. 13) and Iowa State (No. 18). Utah, Oklahoma State and Baylor all received votes.

NET Rankings

An update to the NCAA’s NET Rankings saw the WVU women drop two spots to No. 12 this week. The Mountaineers debuted at No. 10 in the rankings last week but were jumped by Duke and LSU.

West Virginia plays its first true road game later this week, traveling to Temple in Philadelphia, Pa. for a game on Sunday. That game will tip off at 2 p.m. and be broadcast on ESPN2.
