Joe Mazzulla Cherishes Celtics Scoring Playoff Win on Easter

Joe Mazzulla is no stranger to winning playoff games for the Celtics, but Sunday’s had some special significance because it took place on Easter.
Mazzulla, who has been public about his faith, was asked if having a game on Easter Sunday carried any extra meaning.
And in typical Mazzulla fashion, he offered a brief, yet perfect response.
“I cherish it. I don’t think anything’s better than Easter and the Celtics.”

Mazzulla’s Boston team was able to rise up and defeat the Orlando Magic 103-86 in game 1 of their first round series. The win gives Boston a 1-0 series lead and improves their record to a staggering 101-8 when they shoot at least 40% from long range.
While busy trying to repeat with the Celtics, Mazzulla made himself available to WVU director of athletics Wren Baker during the coaching search. In fact, Mazzulla provided guidance for Baker and the program over the years, most notably while dealing with the controversial end to Bob Huggins’ tenure.
“Coach Mazzulla, what he’s doing with the Celtics, he’s someone that I admire with his ability to profess his faith on a big stage in a time where that gets lost,” said WVU head coach Ross Hodge.
“His messaging is something that inspires me. Just his overall approach to life is awesome and I can’t wait to use him as a resource,” Hodge added about why he respects Mazzulla beyond just his work as a great coach.
