Potential Suitors for Will Grier in 2019 NFL Draft

With the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft in the books and the majority of teams finding answers to their quarterback problems, we take a look at what franchises may be in the market for West Virginia quarterback Will Grier’s services.

This year’s draft was somewhat of an oddity with five quarterbacks selected in the first round – Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen and Lamar Jackson. I don’t expect five more to go in the first round next year, but I love the chances that Grier goes on day one.

Hell, he may even be the first quarterback taken.

Assuming Grier has a similar year to 2017 or potentially even better, a team is going to more than likely need a pick in the top ten in order to snag him. So unless a trade is involved, this rules out the Patriots, Steelers, Colts, Raiders, Eagles, Vikings, Packers, Rams and Seahawks.

Teams that have drafted a quarterback this year that probably won’t be selecting another one next year are Cleveland, New York Jets, Buffalo, Arizona, and Baltimore. Teams that have a quarterback for the foreseeable future would be the Titans, Colts, Texans, Raiders, Eagles, Cowboys, Lions, Packers, Panthers, Falcons, Buccaneers, Rams, Seahawks and 49ers.

There are a few teams that may have a disappointing season and may be ready to move on from their current signal caller such as Cincinnati, Jacksonville, LA Chargers, NY Giants and Carolina. Yep, even Carolina needs a quarterback sooner rather than later.

Some organizations are in a “wait and see” situation with their quarterbacks so places like Kansas City and Chicago are unsure if they have their guy or not and it may be too early to move on from who they currently have. And then finally, you look at the teams that are just desperate for a future at the position like Miami, Denver, and the NY Giants.

If I had to project the most likely candidate to draft the Mountaineers’ gunslinger, I would have to go with the Miami Dolphins. That is of course if they do not find their guy over the next two days. The Dolphins have been cursed at the position really since the Dan Marino days and are in a rut when it comes to getting over the hump. They have only made the playoffs four times since 2000 and only twice since 2008, you can also thank the Patriots for that. To me, they just make the most sense. The Dolphins will likely have a top ten pick, do not currently have a franchise guy and are flirting with the idea to move on from Ryan Tannehill.

I’m sure the Grier family would love to return to some warmer weather in the sunshine state where he played at the University of Florida for two years. One year from now, we could be talking about Will Grier as the top quarterback taken and the face of an NFL franchise.
