Rich Rodriguez Furthers Effort to Win Back Over Top 2026 QB Brodie McWhorter

In his continued effort to win back over top quarterback recruit Brodie McWhorter, Rich Rodriguez spent time with the four-star prospect in person.
Rodriguez’s trip to Georgia comes weeks after McWhorter surprised West Virginia fans when he posted a screenshot that showed he had a virtual conversation with WVU’s head coach. Both McWhorter and Rodriguez are seen smiling ear to ear in the screenshot.
McWhorter didnโt add more context to his post, but included a simple caption that lends fans to believe the conversation was a positive one.
โGreat talk with Coach Rodriguez,โ said the high coveted quarterback.
On Thursday, McWhorter posted a picture with Rodriguez to thank him for stopping by his school.

Backstory on West Virginia’s pursuit of McWhorter
McWhorter revealed that he was withdrawing his commitment to the Mountaineers on Dec. 2, the day after West Virginia announced the program was moving on from Brown.
McWhorterโs decision came after he posted a picture with Brown and โdoesnโt even feel right. Canโt thank this man enough โ LEGENDARYโ as the caption for his initial reaction to the news of Brownโs firing.ย

But now despite McWhorterโs close relationship with Brown, it appears heโs open to becoming a Mountaineer once again and willing to hear what Rodriguez and the new WVU staff could offer him.
McWhorter is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback out of Cass High School in Kingston, Ga. He was on campus for a visit for WVUโs home finale against UCF.ย
Two major national recruiting outlets rank McWhorter as a four-star while one awards him only three stars.
To put McWhorterโs recruitment in context, he has offers from Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Indiana, Louisville, Michigan State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oregon, Purdue among others.
And in addition to those offers, Alabama, Clemson, Louisville, LSU, South Carolina and Tennessee have also expressed interest. Syracuse also sent him an offer recently on Jan. 19.
McWhorter was the second commitment for WVUโs 2026 class when he announced back in June.

Looking over his feed, it might be easier to list the schools/coaches he has not posted.
The good news is that means he is probably better than the players we have been signing.
The bad news is we have a lot of competition and Rodriguez does not have a system which attracts QBS with NFL aspirations.
