Storylines to Keep an Eye On for WVU Against Texas Tech in Season Finale
With one more game left in the season, WVU tries to send shockwaves throughout the Big 12 and college football with a major upset over a top five team.
WVU LB Reid Carrico Offers Candid Assessment of Program’s Culture
WVU fans have heard Rich Rodriguez and other coaches speak positively about their belief in the future of the Mountaineers, but hearing from a departing player is different.
Linebacker Reid Carrico offered a candid assessment of where he believes the WVU program is headed while discussing the end of his college career and previewing the 2025 season finale on Tuesday.
“I’m excited to see what the team does next year and the teammates that I still have around here in Morgantown, I’m excited to watch and see how they play when it’s year two and maybe they’ll more comfortable in the system,” explained Carrico.
Joey McGuire Won’t Allow Texas Tech to Take WVU, Rich Rodriguez Lightly
Knowing what’s at stake and the coach on the home sideline, Texas Tech Joey McGuire isn’t taking the Mountaineers lightly. McGuire’s respect and admiration for Rich Rodriguez is a big reason why he’s not ready to plan for Dallas just yet.
“I have a lot of respect for Coach Rodriguez, I don’t know him very well but I know a lot of guys that have worked with him and for him,” said McGuire during his weekly press conference. “He’s a great offensive mind.”
McGuire then elaborated about Rodriguez even more before getting what he views as his personal curse about gamers in West Virginia.
“Rich Rod is an offensive guru. You go back and look at his career, he’s kind of the king of tempo. They do a great job of getting the ball on the perimeter. They’re playing really, really hard. Whenever you got that, that means they still believe,” he said.
WVU Football to Be Without Another RB in Season Finale
In extremely fitting fashion, WVU will be without another running back in its season finale on Saturday afternoon.
On Monday during his final radio show of the season, Rich Rodriguez revealed that Diore Hubbard will miss the Texas Tech game with an injury, ending his season.
Hubbard was cast into the top back role after both Jahiem White and Tye Edwards suffered season-ending injuries. West Virginia has also lost other running backs like Clay Ash throughout the season as well.
Cyncir Bowers will carry more of the workload on Saturday and linebacker turned running back Curtis Jones will continue his role in short yardage situations with Hubbard out.

MY PREDICTION WAS,,, THE GAMES OVER AT THE ENDOF THE 1ST QT,, I WAS WRONG, IT WAS OVER AT COIN FLIP
TWO,, I SAID THAT TTU WOULD WIN BY AT LEAST 40 AND IT MIGHT ALL COME BY HALFTIME,,,
WECAN’T EVEN GET A FIRST DOWN,,
IT’S MEN AGAINST LITTLE BOYS AS I SEE IT..
AT THIS RATE IT WILL TAKE WVU 4 YRS TO COMPETE , NOT TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP,,, JUST COMPETE,,
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY PITIFUL,,, WE CAN’T EVEN GET A FIRST DOWN,, WE JUST HAVE NO TALENT,,, WENT FOR IT ON FIRST DOWN, AND WE LOST YARDAGE,
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY SICKENING AND PITIFUL
