With the December National Signing Day fast approaching later this week, the WVU football staff is hoping their efforts in recruiting a Virginia Tech commit will lead him to West Virginia.

On the heels of an official visit to WVU over the weekend, 2026 cornerback prospect Zaevion Cleveland posted a cryptic message on social media, causing fans to believe he’s going to flip from the Hokies.

Despite being still committed to Virginia Tech, Cleveland posted four images from his trip to Morgantown and has also been re-posting offers from other WVU recruits.

Cleveland (6-foot03, 180 pounds) revealed he earned his West Virginia offer after a conversation with WVU cornerbacks coach Rod West on Oct. 20.

A 2026 cornerback prospect out of Green Run High School in Virginia Beach, Va., Cleveland, who committed to Virginia Tech in late June, re-opened his recruitment following the firing of former Hokies head coach Brent Pry. Virginia Tech has since hired former Penn State coach James Franklin to take over their program.

Cleveland is considered a three-star player and a top 20 Virginia based recruit in his class. He also plays basketball and runs track for his high school.

Prior to committing to Virginia Tech, Cleveland had offers from Arkansas, Duke, East Carolina, JMU, Liberty, UConn, Syracuse, Virginia and several others.

West Virginia has showed Cleveland the most interest since he re-opened his recruitment.
