Before fall camp for the current WVU football team gets underway, a select group of high school players were able to experience a camp of their own at the home of the Mountaineers on Thursday.

Players worked out together, took part in drills, talked with coaches and were able to soak up their time on campus. Below are comments by some of the recruits about their camp day. This groups consists of top prospects, multi-sport athletes and in-state talent.

Cooper McCutchan (2026 TE/basketball star, OH)

The West Virginia staff sent a 2026 offer to Cooper McCutchan, a tight end and basketball star in Ohio, on July 17.

McCutchan plays both football and basketball at Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Even though he has numerous videos of his basketball highlights posted on social media, the expectation is that heโ€™s pursing football in college.

Coach Stewart was great. Weโ€™ve met and talked briefly in the past, so it was nice to talk more,” said McCutchan to WVSN.

Dorian Rutledge (2026 3-star DB, DE)

Dorian Rutledge, a three-star cornerback out of Middletown High School in Delaware, was back at WVU after standing out during a 7-on-7 tournament about a month ago. WVU sent him an offer in late May. He was actually one of the first 2026 recruits the WVU coaching staff reached out to when the contact period opened up on June 15.

Tay’Shaun Roper (2025 RB/DB, WV)

Rowen Walsh (2026 TE, OH)

Brady Onda (2026 DE, PA’s WPIAL)

Darnell Stokes (2026 WR/CB, DE)

Chase Travis (2027 OL/DL, WV)

The coaches were even so impressed with one particular camper that he earned an offer. Donovan Rodriguez, a 2025 athlete out of Lancaster, Pa., revealed WVU co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach ShaDon Brown called him with the offer.

“After a great camp performance and a conversation with ShaDon Brown, I am truly blessed and honored ย to receive a PWO from West Virginia University!,” said Rodriguez on X (formerly Twitter).
